Migration Assessment Process

Understanding ASMIRT assessment outcomes and the appeal process

Assessment Overview

ASMIRT's Overseas Qualification Assessment Panel (OQAP) evaluates applications on an individual basis. The assessment determines whether your qualifications and experience meet Australian standards for radiography practice.

Important Note

A successful overseas assessment does not guarantee membership of ASMIRT, employment in Australia, or registration as a practitioner with the Medical Radiation Practice Board of Australia (AHPRA).

Assessment Outcomes

1. Unconditional Recognition

Your qualifications meet Australian standards

Your overseas qualifications are recognized as equivalent to the Australian standard at the time of qualification, and your post-qualification experience is also of an acceptable standard.

What You Receive:

  • • Statement of Qualification (for Diagnostic Radiography/Radiation Therapy)
  • • Certificate of Recognition in Ultrasound (for Ultrasound qualifications)
  • • Letter for use in the immigration process
  • • Eligibility for ASMIRT membership

2. Conditional Rejection

Additional requirements need to be met

The Assessment Panel recommends that you provide additional documentation or undertake further experience to meet Australian standards.

Possible Requirements:

  • • Provide further documentation to support your application
  • • Undertake additional clinical experience
  • • Complete specific training or education
  • • Demonstrate competency in specific areas

3. Rejection

Qualifications do not meet Australian standards

Your overseas qualifications do not meet the Australian standard at the time of qualification. You may be recommended to upgrade your qualifications.

Recommended Actions:

  • • Complete a MRPBA accredited Radiation Science program at an Australian university
  • • You have 3 years from the rejection date to achieve this
  • • Supply additional documentation to support your application
  • • Consider alternative pathways or career options
