Overview

The Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) is authorized by the Australian Department of Home Affairs to assess and issue skills assessments for overseas radiographers wishing to practice in Australia.

Application Process

After ASMIRT: The National MRP Exam

After successful ASMIRT assessment, you may need to pass the National MRP Exam before MRPBA registration. The exam tests your knowledge against Australian professional capabilities.

Exam Structure

  • Part A: Common capabilities (all MRP divisions)
  • Part B: Division-specific capabilities
  • Pass Mark: 65% required in BOTH parts
  • Attempts: Maximum 3 lifetime attempts

  • • October 17-25, 2026

Registration opens ~3 weeks before each sitting

MRPBA Registration Fee (2025-26)

$221 AUD per year (as of September 2025). A 30% rebate is available for practitioners returning from parental, disability, or carer's leave.

Important 2026 Changes

From March 30, 2026, updated Professional Capabilities take effect:

  • • Mandatory anaphylaxis training (MRPs can now administer adrenaline)
  • • Updated clinical deterioration recognition requirements
  • • Basic Life Support (CPR, AED) certification required
  • • 450 hours of practice within 3 years for recency requirements

A new streamlined pathway for experienced overseas practitioners is also being introduced mid-2026.
